I remember him. Sounds like a wise man. I keep meaning to read more (or indeed anything) on post-1945 European history. I do have a 'few' books in a stack waiting to go.
Can you recommend any modern German history books that you think I might like? I have a few books that focus on Berlin (inevitably) but I'd like to read something with a bit wider focus.

He was very wise indeed. Too wise for many, hence his dismissal.
