"Liberty and good
government do not exclude each other; and there are excellent reasons why they
should go together. Liberty is not a means to a higher political end. It is itself the highest
political end. It is not for
the sake of a good public administration that it is required, but for security
in the pursuit of the highest objects of civil society, and of private life."
Lord Acton in The History of Freedom in Antiquity (1877)
"Liberty and good government do not exclude each other ..." -- I think that is the essential point that the Tea Party misses. I think they believe that they will get rid of government and the magic ideals of the free market will create a perfect society where companies don't rape the earth, all children are educated, and nobody is hungry. But, we know in reality the exact opposite occurs. They don't want to admit it but they are advocating for anarchy where everybody looks out for themselves.

Oh, it will be much worse than Anarchy - it'll be Chaos!
I just read that now that the US has been downgraded from a AAA credit rating, there are no countries that have that credit rating that don't have universal health care. I honestly don't know what it is going to take for this country to escape from the ideological grasp of the right wing.
