Indeed! Every year I hate getting up in the dark and getting home in the dark more and more. It's one of the things I'm looking forward to most when I retire - no alarm clocks and getting up when I wake up - generally in daylight!!
I find I don't mind the shorter hours of daylight, if I get outside and walk or hike during the day.
