It's an old cartoon hence the huge CRT monitor. Those babies cranked out a lot of heat so he's probably left his coffee there to keep it warm while he picks away at the keyboard. I myself am a 1-2 finger typist but I've managed to type quite a few LONG essays (not to mention my last 20K word dissertation) in my time so I can't be THAT slow [grin].
CRTs were a lot of fun to lug up a flight of stairs, as I recall. Now I can haul a couple around in one hand, depending on the flexibility of my fingers..
why is there a cup of coffee with a straw in it behind the computer; it's annoying attitude is probably due to caffeine overdose...

One of the great assets of a computer is that one can blame it for everything and it never argues back.
