i read somewhere recently about the percentage of damage and death experienced by the riders of scooters in Rome. i don't remember exactly what the figures were, but they were pretty high... i rode one when i was young until my Vespa put me in the hospital...
@ Mudpuddle: That doesn't surprise me. I was initially terrified to cross the road in Rome until I realised that the only way to do it was just to step out like the locals. The cars and scooters just drive around you. After a while it became second nature.... Weird!
