I actually don't know that much about him - except what I guess *everyone* knows but from what I can tell he was very smart and very thoughtful. No great surprise he's so admired by so many on both sides....
I have read some great books on Lincoln, including one about his last trial - it's by Dan Abrams, it was excellent. I've found I like to read much better about aspects of his life NOT involving his presidency.
