Probably not related but, as far as I know, 85% of ginger cats are male. So it wouldn't surprise me that there's a strong link between hair colour and sex.
I looked for info on any correlation between red hair and gender. I found this: “We also confirmed earlier findings that red hair is naturally more frequent in women than in men.” The report said pre-natal estrogen influences the development of red hair.
Interesting, VV. I think I do know more girls than boys with red hair but never really thought about it and probably would have put that down to coincidence. Thanks.

ReplyDeleteI'm guessing that 'red head' and 'female' are linked very much in the mothers genome. It'd be interesting to see what hair colour a boy would have.
