In Germany, you have to pay a fee if you use another bank. It's horrible. There is only one place in our town where I can get cash for free. But there are so many shops where I can't pay by card. We live in the 19th century.
I think they tried the 'other bank' fees here but (if memory serves) that was made illegal by the government (probably Tory). I don't know of any shop that doesn't take cards but I've heard of a few that don't take cash. Cash use seems to be a LOT rarer than it was pre-Covid. The only time I pay cash is to my window cleaner. I don't even carry it any more.
I would've have thought that Germany (of all places) would be ahead of the game here...?

Yes, you would think so, unfortunately, with regards to the internet, Germany is a third world country.
