some places, bars, restaurants, etc. here on the west coast will have take one leave one bookshelves in them; sometimes some curious items pop up... the smallest one i've seen was in Cathlamet: just a large mailbox with paperbacks in it...
I like it when people spontaneously leave books for other people like that. You see it quite a bit where I work. A pile of used paperbacks with a sign saying 'Just take one' or similar. Some books I didn't manage to give to charity shops I just leave on my bus for other passengers to pick up and (maybe) read.
