It's actually a short story (or probably novella actually) called "Escape on Mars" (originally "Yellow Men of Mars"). Collected in the book Llana of Gathol published in 1948.
erb was extraordinarily prolific...
I've read a few - from both the Venus & Mars series. I remember enjoying them quite a lot.
