have you read the Dumarest cycle of novels by Tubb? they're addictive: i read many of them once; ingenious and riveting... D travels the planets looking for his home: many adventures..
@ Mudpuddle: Doesn't ring any bells. I've read a few of his short stories over the years but not much (I think) of his longer work.
