IDK... I'd hazard that Al Qaeda didn't seem like much of a threat until 9/11 happened, at least not to the general public.

I'd even say that had someone told me in 1999 that a group of men would board four planes, successfully hijack 3, flying two into the world trade centers destroying them, and one into the pentagon I'd probably have thought that would be a 'neat trick'.

Surely, armed with only box-cutters those onboard would recognize their peril and fight valiantly to stop these men. Of course airport and FAA security would never allow such a thing to take place. Nothing could allow so few to carry out such a destructive and devastating attack with so little.

Fact is stranger than fiction.

As far as what the republicans are going to do against even a ‘perceived’ threat doesn’t really ‘thrill’ me. War in Iraq hasn’t made me think Terrorists are going to be ‘less’ successful in the future or that there is actually LESS of them. I also don’t think the difference in what a republican does and what a democrat does is going to be that much different in terms of it being ‘effective’.

Far as I’m concerned my choices for President are all disasters. Personally I think the time of the United States having leaders which are chosen on there merit and intelligence are long gone. Now we’re more concerned about the media circus ‘hoop jumping’.

I think the caucuses should start with someone saying “Let the games begin!”

Personally someone needs to figure out how to make/grow human clones from preserved DNA. I want Lincoln back or maybe FDR.

I think the problems with our political system are always US. It's not the candidates or how they're covered: both those things--the choice of people that bubble to the top of the process, and the media and their approach to news--reflect OUR limitations and prejudices.

Two Bush presidencies--the second one a thin but legitimate second term--indicate exactly this country's level of education.

We get exactly the candidates we demand. Without a strongly rational and scientific understanding of the world, let us hope we do not get the candidates we deserve.

Get back to me with the percentages of people who voted last time and then talk to me about our 'uneducated' country. I believe less than half voted. I sure as hell didn't because I didn't like the candidates I was offered then either.

You're right about us needing to DO something. Sadly the effort involved and the organization required to make those types of changes is beyond my meager budget.

I'd hazard that they're *still* not much of a threat in the grand scheme of things.

Quite often yes - but that just points out people's basic lack of imagination.

See - I knew that sooner or later we'd agree on something [laughs]

They certainly indicate the level of political nous in your country. I was honestly shocked when Bush got in for a 2nd Term.

Unfortunately I think we always get the governments we deserve. Bad governments are *our* fault for electing them & then putting up with them.
