Oh, I hadn't seen that. It opens counter-clockwise so it's not the Nazi symbol, but rather the Indian symbol, for peace or something. That's a rather odd thing to have on a swimsuit at that time.

December 1922. I thought it was odd too. As you say, not the Nazi symbol but the Indian good luck symbol. Apparently - according to Wikipedia - it was hugely popular in the 1920's throughout Europe and the USA.

It was adopted by the National Socialists in 1925.

I didn't realize it was adopted so early. Cool bit of history. Thanks. Where does that Indian influence come from in the USA? I can see the connection between India and the British Empire and then on to the rest of Europe. What were Americans doing in the 1920s, prior to the Market crash and the Great Depression? From the looks of these girls, having a good time I suppose.
