I'm presently reading a history of it's predecessor (or one part of it at least) the Royal Flying Corp from WW1. I've read about it before many years ago but its still fascinating stuff - just the fact that a mere 11 or so years after the first manned flight they were actually fighting in them. Says a lot about humanity I guess.... [lol]
I know. I look at this for my history classes and am amazed at the daring to get in these machines to begin with and then a relatively short time later to be having aerial battles in them.

I suppose that it's the human way. We invent something and either turn it into a weapon or race it - or both.
What always amazed me was the short time between the first manned flight and the first man on the Moon. Just 66 years!
