We're arguing to raise the minimum wage over here, for everyone. The latest scandal is that we're now aware that people working full-time at the minimum wage don't earn enough to survive on, and they then collect free health insurance and foot stamps from the government to make ends meet, all while their major employers rack up huge profits and bonuses for their CEOs. We knew all along people couldn't survive on minimum wage, but now that most people realize it's their billions of tax dollars subsidizing big corporations, they're pissed.
There's an ongoing argument here to between minimum wage and living wage. The latest scandal (as such) is over the great growth in so-called zero hour contracts - AKA slave labour, oh, and so-called internships in big companies also slave labour!
Of course in these 'difficult times' - produced by the very people who are screwing the rest of us as if nothing had happened - they pretty much think that they have the poor over a barrel which inevitably they do (again).
