I was watching something the other day about an American computer programming professor having invented a program to read the Herculean scrolls from the long buried library, without opening them. Apparently they crumble to bits if opened. The technology was like an MRI looking inside them in layers and laying out the retrieved information in a pattern for reading. How clever is that?
I've been watching "Parks and Recreation", and one of the running gags is the parks' departments mutual feud with the library. Whoever wrote the show hadn't been in the library recently, because they were using the stern "shh" ladies and filled the building with nothing but stacks. I just did a census and we have 44 computers for public use...
I've been watching it as a Netflix trial. At first it was redeemed only by Rashida Jones and the glorious character that is Ron Swanson, but as of season 4 they've gotten two new actors who add a lot. It's not The Office-level funny, but I'm definitely enjoying it.

is the written word more important than the spoken word? sometimes i think so...
Yes, because it lasts longer and can be transported across centuries, cultures and continents.

i read about that also: it's so much like magic, it gives me a weird feeling...

@ V V: I'd heard about that with the Dead Sea scrolls or some such. VERY clever!
@ Stephen: I have some P&R quotes coming up. Never seen it but have heard good things etc..
