Unrelated, but just ran across something and had to ask: have you ever heard of the Domesday Discs? According to a book I'm reading, in '86 the BBC solicited photos and articles from schools about their area to make a virtual "Domesday Book" in celebration of the 900th anniversary of the original. I actually I think I saw this in operation at a computer history museum in the UK -- I wasn't there, but a fellow was touring it and using a system to look at photos of various locations around England, and I wondered where that apparently old data had come from.
