As we're just a few days away from Bonfire Night/Guy Fawkes - and just because I can - I thought I'd dedicate November to The Rebel'. Enjoy.......... [grin].
It would have been a shame to lose that building, too. A few weeks ago a board meeting I was in set its next meet day for November 5, and I made a "Remember, remember the Fifth of November" joke which absolutely no one got. :p
I think the building they attempted to blow up in 1605 greatly predated the existing Houses of Parliament...although it's possible (vague memory bell going off) that the previous building is incorporated into the present one....
I remember a recreation of the event staged on an old airfield. No one quite knew what that amount of gunpowder would do to the structure - it completely destroyed it and would've killed everyone inside. A BIG bang!

To the king o'er the waters... ;-)
Thankfully Fawkes failed. Not because I'm a Royalist (quite the opposite) but because of the inevitable Catholic bloodbath if he's succeeded.
