Indeed. My knowledge of medals is almost zero - especially of (presumably) US medals so my guess would be..... Navy Cross?
Ah.... VERY quick Google search.... It's a Distinguished Service Cross!
Well, I was thinking that her husband had perished in combat, which is why she alone had the kids in church.(That, or he's out fishin'. But the medal makes me think he was KIA.)
