And it's only going to get worse. Especially the states where they want to pursue charges against women who travel for abortions. I fucking hate it here. Eleanor has lets rights than I did.
I’m so angry with stupid people. We’ve seriously discussed and investigated emigrating to Canada. We also have a Canadian citizen willing to sponsor us. I really hope it doesn’t come to that.
I do hope (and pray?) that things don't get anywhere as bad as some people are predicting. I *still* can't believe that there's a real possibility that the Orange One might *win* in November. What are people THINKING!?!
I don't know what people are thinking. I don't even want to be able to know what they are thinking. I can only say, I won't be surprised if he wins again, same as I wasn't surprised when he won the first time. Many people over here didn't think he would ever. But look at the elections in all our countries lately!!!
It astounds me, what people are thinking. I was reading a book recently (review in 2 weeks) about the Little Ice Age in Europe (17th/18th centuries) and the author mentioned something interesting - the Fortress Mentality. In a fearful world, people retreat behind walls, expel (or control) the 'Other' and want a strong man to make the difficult decisions (so *they* don't have to!) - all through Fear. They see problems rather than opportunities, they see survival rather than growth... and, of course, they fail to see (or are ignorant of) the multiple ways that such a mentality is primed to fail, often in a spectacular fashion. And, as always, there are people both willing and able to take advantage of frightened people.... [sigh]
It was a very good book - originally published in German - and I learnt a lot from it. It also changed the way I looked at things which I really like. I'm afraid he wasn't too optimistic about things going forward....
If you want to check it out before my review its:
'Nature's Mutiny - How the Little Ice Age Transformed the West and Shaped the Present' by Philipp Blom.
He's VERY good. I've read his book about the run-up to WW1 which was excellent too. I'm looking forward to reading another of his about the Inter-War years.

It does look like both of you are going to have to fight for your rights all over again - especially if Mr Orange wins in November.
Ever thought of emigrating to Canada? You do like cold & snow & stuff....

CK, very good analysis to make sense of this insanity.
I'm looking forward to that review, Kitten. Sounds like they understand what's going on. Do they have a solution?
