The quintessence of raygun gothic!

Isn't it just! I did like reading combat-SF from the 30's and 40's - which was essentially WW2 in space with almost nothing changed because of the environment!

Space weapons are a bit of a conundrum though - especially when you have to think about reaction/inertia as well as not exactly wanting to puncture your hull (you know, the one that's keeping your air in...) if your fighting inside your own ship!

Yeaaah, I always want to roll my eyes any time there's a phaser fight in Engineering -- unless it's Klingons and they specifically want to destroy the Enterprise. Shooting it would do the trick and death in combat is a particularly honorable way to go out..

That's why melee weapons are ideal for fighting inside spaceships.... [grin] Or maybe those guns that fire small/tiny beanbags... [lol]

Have you seen the 1981 film 'Outland' with Sean Connery? He's a sheriff on a mining colony on Io. Essentially it's 'High Noon' in space. LOTS of fun.
