Happy World Radio Day! I've listened to the radio for the last 60 years and loved the experience..... MANY happy memories.........

Interesting! Before computers -- at least a little into the 2000s -- radio was a big part of my life. Many fond memories of staying up during the summer and listening to "After Midnight" type shows. I remember hearing about the July 7 bombings at like 3 am one summer. The local NPR affiliate had great programming on Sundays -- "From the Top", which features young musicians, "Says You", which was all about wordplay -- not to mention bluegrass on Saturday nights. I enjoy finding old radio recordings on archive.org or youtube and listening to them, especially The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet, and Fibber McGee and Molly. Also used to listen to the BBC online for their every-twelve hour world news roundups.

I'm old enough to (just) remember radio plays on Sunday afternoon. I remember how little 'pop' music was on the BBC so we had to listen to foreign (Radio Luxembourg) or pirate radio to hear the latest music. I remember the early days of Radio 1 and their iconic DJ's. I remember the advent of Punk, New Wave and the New Romantics and how they changed everything.... FUN times!

These days [grin] I listen to Classic FM morning till bedtime... I do need to replace my CD player so I can play my CDs again though. Maybe for my upcoming birthday [muses]

I have a Crosley set that looks like a 1930s era radio player, but it can do records, cds, cassette tapes, and supposedly mp3s from a flash drive. It ate the one cassette tape I tried, so it's basically just been a decorative piece since then. I should give the record player a try...

About 30 years ago when I worked in London (though I lived in Kent) I had some old vinyl I wanted to play so popped into a local shop and asked if they sold record players. The young guy working there had NO idea what I meant, so I tried 'turntables'. Oh, no he said, shaking his head. We don't sell THOSE. You'll need to go to a *specialist* shop... [lol]

I've not listened to the radio in years. Up until just a couple years ago, I listened to NPR on the way to work and back home. It's always been an in-the-car-only thing for me. In high school, of course, I listened to the radio all the time to make mix-tapes and oh the humanity when the dj was still talking when the song came on that I wanted to record. Now I am all about Spotify and nothing else.

Oh, I remember annoying DJs and shushing people in the room so they wouldn't be picked up by the *microphone* pointing at the radio/TV.... How HARD we had it back then!!

Right?! And now I have like, 100 playlists on Spotify with various combinations of Taylor Swift songs, lol

My parents played a lot of radio when I was growing up... mostly classical music, political talk shows, Dr Laura (relationship advice), and Click & Clack (car advice). It was a bit of a mixed bag. I loved the classical station because I was studying music and sometimes I would put in requests. I also liked Michael Medved, a conservative host who had a "friendly dad" demeanor in otherwise boring or too-vitriolic political landscape. (Incidentally, I just looked him up and I see he endorsed Kamala.) I had a bit too much fun listening to Dr Laura - my mom had me stop listening to her as soon as I started to actually pay attention to it and understand the drama going on (sigh). XD

Nowadays I only listen to radio if I'm stuck in traffic and then I play the Top 40 Hits to see what's popular and stay informed haha.

Living through the 70's and 80's when most of the GOOD music happened and it seemed like a revolution (sound wise!) was happening every day, the radio was pretty exciting! These days its "just" pleasant wallpaper/background music. But I am learning quite a bit about the Classics....
