This would be funny if it weren't absolutely true.
I think very many religious folks would like nothing more (not that they're giving up their computers and cell phones and modern medicine and electricity and pasteurizing and automobiles while they wait to get the laws changed...)
I think there are certainly elements within the Big 3 religions that would like to control (or remove) certain aspects of scientific progress that they disapprove of. In my mind even with their present lack of power and influence they have far too great an impact on things.
I'm not saying that we should just blindly accept whatever science produces as somehow an unquestionable good thing but that we should criticise progress on rational and not irrational grounds.
