Haha, US Department of Homeland Security? Shouldn't this be something the UK made? I don't think we're quite to your level of surveillance. Yet.....

I heard on the radio a guy calling in from the UK who got pulled over for not having insurance. They scanned his plates and were able to tell his insurance wasn't registered with the State. Here they still have to pull you over for something else before they get to check all your driving permission slips. For now anyway.

Indeed. We are probably one of (if not the) most spyed upon population in the West - although the USA is making great efforts to catch up. You have had more than your share of domestic spying incidents recently...

That's not unusual. Number plate recognition is standard fit these days - supposedly for road pricing (yeah). I posted something on the function creep aspects of that recently.
