Scott, our resident anarchist, it's a stretch for even you to try and turn this cartoon into a discussion of big government. Despite what you may think, not every subject in the world is about the "state".
It's amazing what you find spending 30 minutes on Google images [grin]

Welcome back scott!
I think that the largest historical source of cruelty and injustice are people who think they're 'building better worlds' on the foundations of the bodies of their (many) enemies. These people come from all spectrums - both secular & religious and are responsible for the many mass graves that are periodically unearthed.

[laughs] I'm thinking that scott is a little to far to the right to welcome being called an anarchist...

I'm not a huge fan of the State myself but can see that it does have some limited uses - at least for now. It's entirely possible that we could do without it but we'd all have to be *very* different people for that to work properly!
Dback, I wasn't trying to turn it into a discussion exactly, just sharing the first thought that popped into my somewhat distorted brain.
CK: I *think* there are differing views on what, exactly, the left-right paradigm is. Your side of the Atlantic seems to view it differently from this side I mean. Either way, I have no problem with being called an anarchist or even right-wing (or left-wing that matter) as I think I fit into someone's definitions of all those things. I am though, above all, ardently anti-state.

I think that we all appreciate your distorted brain.....

Indeed. from what I can tell - in your mainstream politics at least - what you call The Left we Europeans would probably still call The Right. This is undoubtedly the result of your centre ground being somewhat the the right of *our* centre ground [grin]. Being a generally Left leaning Continent its also probably fair to say that we tend to have more people on the Anarchist side of things (which AFAIK is on the Left) rather that the Libertairian (which AFAIK is on the Right).

I used to be *very* anti-state in my 20's and was probably on file somewhere because of it [laughs]. I definitely lean to the Left though and have much sympathy with Socialism and even Communism up to a point.

Thanks. I take it you're agreeing with me and are not being in any way sarcastic (?)
