I've sent paperwork to my son's school to leave him out of all military mailings. He'll have to register for the draft of course, but I'm doing what I can to keep them from snagging him before they ought.

Draft? I didn't thibnk the US *had* the Draft any more?

Well, I chose the wrong word. It's not the "draft" per se, but every male when he turns 18 must "register with selective service" which really means, we've got you on file should we need to implement the draft. It's about semantics. We're not using the word "draft" right now, but the selective service registration and preventing males from getting student aid and other things, to assure they register, keeps all records up to date to call all males in at a moment's notice. It's keeping the draft's operational network in place and up-to-date and just not using it until we have to. As a mother, we know what it's for and I personally don't like to think anyone could take my son away from me and make him go to war, but being forced to register makes it clear, his life is not his own if his government decides they need it and short of shipping him to another country, there's not much I can do about it.

What’s interesting is that even though our government HATES illegal aliens, they are quite willing to look the other way and insist that they register with the selective service. Maybe that’s what the artist was trying to convey with the Latino High School shirt.

There is a very real push for a return to conscription. If you were listening to the new administration the days prior to their inauguration you might have noticed an emphasis on “volunteerism”. Irony has never has such a strong case as the State calling something “volunteerism”. There is also a group called Service Nation that has been propagandizing for over a year for a new National Service Act that has the backing of major progressive mouthpieces like the Huffington Post.

There is a STRONG chance that the Obama reign will bring a return to State sponsored slavery.

Ain't that always the truth! But I hear you get a tiny shiny medal pinned to your corpse.

Scott, good catch with the Latino shirt. I didn't even pick up on that.
