That's been me for my entire adult working life. I went to college hoping that would improve my income, then the economic downturn hit, so no luck so far. *sigh*

I've been lucky in many ways. After leaving Uni and spending 2 years unemployed I was used to having no money, so when I got my first job I felt quite rich despite working in one of the most expensive cities in the world. When I moved here I bought a house at the bottom of the market and, although it was a struggle at first, as time passed it got easier and easier. Now I actually save money every month. I'm not earning a great deal in the grand scheme of things but its more than enough for me and my needs. As I said - I'm lucky in that respect.

I'm lucky I've got M, her income supports mine. That said, I also live in a rural end of the State and even during good times, wages here are lower than the rest of the State. I'm hoping for the day when we move near a large city and I can make obscene piles of money to make up for all of this. :-)
