I did love the scene where she wore that dress that made her look like a badly decorated wedding cake and all the rich 'sophisticated' women looked down on her. Later we see her surrounded by men mesmerized by her beauty, personality and expert engineering knowledge. Hilarious!
I do wonder if they could've kept up that standard for series after series. Thankfully what little they did produce was brilliant - although I didn't like it very much on first viewing and only got into it during the re-runs.
I was hooked by a YouTube clip of Wash playing with dinosaurs -- after I streamed an episode on Hulu, I bought the DVDs outright. I've lost count of the many times I've watched them since!
And your point is true, it seems like they caught lightening in a bottle..
The series truly is better with every viewing. That is the unfortunate benefit of a short series ... the ability to watch the whole thing in a short period of time.
Speaking of the dinosaurs, I loved that too. I even have a t-shirt of it:

Kaylee was utterly adorable. She loses charm with so much makeup on, though. I liked that hippy-mechanic thing she had going on.

I would say that's a great episode, but...it's Firefly. They're ALL great episodes. That one is especially fun, though --
