It missed a character in there, the NRA stooge talking about how this is a mental health issue, not a gun issue.

I think it might be a mental health issue on a *national* scale... rather than an individual one. I really can't understand why the US can't seem to talk about it rationally. Is it *so* deeply embedded in your psyche? I shudder to think what it will take to wake people up to things....

I think, like with a lot of issues, the majority of American people want something to be done about guns, but a vocal minority of people and the powerful NRA lobby prevent our government from doing anything about it.

Naive as it sounds... if a majority of people in a democracy want something to happen bad enough then presumably eventually it will - over the objections of a vocal minority. Isn't that just what happened with gay marriage? Maybe there's hope yet that sanity will prevail?

Plus I'm guessing that different groups have very different ideas what to do about the gun problem - from limiting magazine size to a total ban and everything in between. That probably doesn't help things moving forward if there's a lot of infighting within any gun control 'movement'.
