It's a pity about the Hindenberg. Photographs of cities with docking spires atop skyscrapers always make me wonder what kind of infrastructure might have grown around zeppelin transport had it become the norm.

I don't think that it would've really 'taken off' no matter how romantic it seems. Trans-Atlantic and Trans-Continental aircraft were just around the corner which were a lot faster and cruise ships had a great deal more comfort and safety. Airships where (and are) a technological dead end IMO.

Oh, if you want to check out a world where airships did that sort of thing try either Fringe (TV show) or Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow (movie).

It would freak me out to fly in one of those things over buildings. I already freak out driving on elevated highways where you can look across the tops of buildings.

I think it'd be pretty amazing moving around at a rather sedate pace that low over a city. I've flown over Sydney Harbour in a helicopter which is probably something similar on a much smaller scale. I guess being in an airship like that would almost feel as if you were at home looking out of your window as the city glided by beneath you. It'd be weird but awesome.
