I really wish more people would study history and see how we're being manipulated in the same way generation after generation. Sometimes it doesn't even take a generation. For the past 7 years, the Right has been scaring their base into hysteria claiming that "Obama's coming for your guns." Today I heard Trump tell his fanatics, "Clinton's coming for your guns!" Honestly, how stupid do you need to be?

From my own experiences 'over here' it would appear that people actively don't *want* to know their history. Knowing leads to thinking and thinking is painful because it forces you to decide stuff that you'd rather just ignore.

Political manipulation is made easy, as you say, because people choose to be ignorant on a whole host of subjects. Some of the nonsense I hear spouted about staying in Europe astounds me. Even worse is that people believe it - without thinking it through. Reasoning power in many people I come across doesn't really get a look in. Emotional 'flash' responses - oh, they're much easier to cope with. Enraged one minute (about something they don't understand) and entranced the next minute (with a cat video on their phone). Welcome to our nightmare future!
