Are there any ship-museums near you that feature 20th-century vessels? About 12 years ago I was able to visit both the USS Texas (a battleship) and the USS Kidd (destroyer) from WW2. We also visited a few pieces of wood known as the USS Cairo, but that was from the Civil War, and it was only a river gunboat.
I haven't really thought about it. I know that HMS Belfast is docked on the Thames and there must be more WW2 ships on the south coast somewhere [muses].
Maybe I can check out locations for a few day trips in the summer.... [muses some more]
