That spider robot reminds me of a machine in one of the Sword of Shanara books. At least I think that was the name. It's been about sixteen years since I read them.
It's not a robot. The artwork is based on the 1950's movie 'The Incredible Shrinking Man' where he actually fights and kills a spider - much bigger than him - with a pin.
