The American Lockheed XFV (sometimes referred to as the Salmon) was an experimental tailsitter prototype aircraft built by Lockheed in the early 1950s to demonstrate the operation of a vertical takeoff and landing fighter for protecting convoys.
I do love experimental aircraft. It's like taking a peek into an alternate world where things like this actually flew...

This one is a COMPLETE unknown. Weird propellers, and the back end looks jet-like..
Strange isn't it!

That is so freaking cool looking!
Amazing isn't it? A very early VTOL plane. From the Wiki article they only made two prototypes. Pity really..... [grin]
More to come - randomly.
