Welcome to the thoughts that wash up on the sandy beaches on my mind. Paddling is encouraged.. but watch out for the sharks.
Life goal: if I ever buy something like Amazon Echo, I'm going to set it to respond to the vocal command "HAL". Even if it's a girl.
LOL - Did you see the Amazon thing on the news recently. A little girl ordered some stuff off the voice activated gizmo. It was reported on the local news - which set off lots of voice activated Amazon gizmo's to order the same thing!
I heard about it! I'm surprised there are no safeguards against that sort of thing. I have friends whose toddlers have managed to unlock their smartphones and order things via the Amazon app while they were sleeping.Weirder and weirder, this century..
I keep saying to people that, as the years progress, things feel more and more like we're living in an SF novel. To me it feels funny (ha, ha) and a bit weird - but then I've been reading SF for over 40 years. Those who have no experience of SF (books, TV, Movies) must find today's world very strange indeed. I just 'remember' incidents in the news as similar to an episode in Star Trek or in a novel by James Blish.... [lol]
Consider how commonplace touchscreen interfaces are now, and the fact that we have terabyte upon terabyte of the world's music, information, etc. accessible through youtube and such. And we have platforms like amazon that let people effectively pool markets, so there are few books I can't get if I'm willing to pay shipping.
