Welcome to the thoughts that wash up on the sandy beaches on my mind. Paddling is encouraged.. but watch out for the sharks.
haha; struck the funny bone, there... and so accurate... religion i'm convinced is due to a wayward gene implanted early on by an invading alien space race... soon THEY SHALL RETURN!!
We are pattern recognition machines. We see patterns sometimes where none exist. We see agency sometimes where none exists.... Put them both together - and we see Gods where none exist. We're not exactly hard-wired for religion but there's something in our brains that points us in that direction. At least that's my thoughts on the idea.
Elections are also like this.. Just replace the clown with a politician, or do I repeat myself? :p
stephen: yes... and thanks for that clown=politico, clown/polit, clown+polit=~`*^?(explosion)
CK: i still think religion is 95% politics; wherein some ego monster uses it to manipulate others... for power and/or profit...
I think that organised Religion descends into Politics (and maybe the other way around too!) with the creation of hierarchies which are often the result of scale. But I don't think religions start, or get a hold, merely because they generate power for a few at the top. There are ego monsters (and just monsters) and people can be manipulated but I think there's much more going on there. There's something in our brains that contributes to the existence of religion. Whilst not exactly wired for God I think that Religion (of all types) piggy-backs on our natural neurology - not unlike a parasite.
i guess i think it's simpler than that: i imagine a bunch of cro-magnons sitting around the campfire, waiting for the meat to sizzle; one of them jumps up and yells, "Look, there's a flying god coming to steal our food!!" so when they all look up, he grabs it and runs... just extrapolate a bit and PRESTO modern corporate religion...
