Heresy: all government health care is a scam!
Radical solution: no government involvement in health care.
Probable reaction: I will be accused of being a cold-hearted SOB!
My reaction: Such is life.

Tim, I'd have to disagree with you 100%. I think that a Nation style Health Service is the sign of advanced civilisation - but then again I am a Socialist! It's one of the things I don't have a problem paying tax for. I am comforted by the idea that, as I grow older, that my health needs are already covered by my own contributions over the years and those of others.

I am a libertarian who champions personal responsibility. Government's role must be limited.
The level of that limitation is negotiable.
However, health care is not a governmental responsibility.
The U.S. constitution does NOT provide for health care.
That is my view of a libertarian society.
We can agree to disagree.
Onward!

Tim, I agree that governments role should be limited. We just disagree at which level this should be set. I believe that the general health of its citizens *is* most definitely a government responsibility. I believe that the role of government is to create the best conditions within its borders to allow its residents to flourish. To do this the state should provide a basic barrier - a safety net - below which people cannot fall. This includes basic health care. Where possible more than basic levels of care in all senses of the word should be provided for all - regardless of ability (or inability) to pay.
