@ V V: I checked back 5 years and came up empty so I'm guessing no. It was either something or somewhere different.
@ Stephen: I couldn't find any reference to a ship called Maginot but you're in the right ballpark - it's French!
It's actually (and rather surprisingly) a Submarine! It's the Surcouf, launched in 1929. She's the only one (I think) in her class because the rest fell foul of the Washington Navy Treaty. She disappeared (believed to have been hit by an American transport ship in the Caribbean) in 1942.

looks like a German gunboat....
Hans: "i thought you were supposed to bring it?"
Fritz: "but you said you would!"
Hans: well, i guess we'll just have to go back and get it then and it's all your fault!"
Have you posted this picture before? I feel like I've seen this before and asked you about it.
Looks like the good ship "Maginot"..all that armor in front, but what's in the back? ;)
@ Mudpuddle: Sorry, neither German nor a gunboat.

I was kidding about the name....it just reminded of the Maginot line. All that armor and arms in the front, nothing visible in the back.
Nice find on the research...how many interesting little stories do our navies have!
A submarine? That would have been my last guess at it--and only because there would have been no other choices.
Weird, isn't it? I have a few more strange military (and some civilian) vehicles to come. I'm kind of a collector of the bizarre... [grin]
CyberKitten,
Definitely weird! Looking forward to more examples.
