It's the RMS Olympic (sister ship to the Titanic) in WW1 'dazzle' paint as part of her Atlantic convoy service in that war.

Perhaps camouflage as an iceberg would be better; (most) other ships would have avoided it. Hmmmmm.

Apparently 'dazzle' painting was very effective at making ships harder to hit by submarines because it broke up the ships silhouette which made it more difficult to gauge speed and therefore threw out the timings of torpedoes.
