"Don't forget about the radioactivity......!"?

Huh?

Yes, we have no bananas. And never, never put bananas in the refrigerator.

remind me of that old favorite--The Banana Bug song.

I LOVED the Banana Bunch... Banana's themselves... Not so much. I far prefer things like strawberries and even apples....

Banana's are recommended because they contain valuable amounts of potassium (10% of the recommended daily intake each) which we're encouraged to consume. A tiny proportion of that in banana's is naturally radioactive. I've heard/read somewhere that eating a banana every day is the equivalent of have 2 chest X-Rays a year..... Perfectly safe but still.... [grin]

Carefully?

With a REALLY big shovel?

I wasn't aware that bananannananananananannaanananan- who was put in charge of spelling that word? -- that the b-things were radioactive. I tend to avoid them for the starch, but now I have a reason that doesn't make me sound vain...

I love bananas! Sadly, I am allergic to them. The smallest bite can make me sick all day. Still, I'll sometimes have a bite and the consequences be damned.

@ Stephen: Well, only *slightly* radioactive but still.... [grin] A good reason to avoid them I think! As to the word origin:

Spanish and Portuguese colonists took the banana with them across the Atlantic from Africa to the Americas, and along with it they brought its African name, banana, apparently a word from one of the languages of the Congo area (it has been speculated that it derives ultimately from Arabic banana ‘finger, toe’, an origin which would be echoed in the English term hand for a bunch of bananas, and serves as a reminder that many varieties of banana are quite small.

@ V V: If it's the flavour rather than the fruit itself have you tried Banana milkshake instead. I used to really like them....

I haven't had a banana shake in years! I love them! I'll have to look for one.
