The glasses first reminded me of a character from one of the later StarTrek TV series--someone named Geordie? It's been a while since I watched them, so my memory is sketchy at best.
Geordie LeForge the engineer in ST:TNG. He did indeed have wrap around glasses broadly similar to these..
