Short Stories

As there’s no single burning issue at the moment – at least none that are dominating – I thought I’d just mention a few things happening around the bazaars or which are buzzing through my particular bonnet.

Retirement:

I’m now about 50 weeks away from retirement. I haven’t given my notice in just yet (I’ll do it next week some time) but it’s going in soon enough. No doubt that 50 weeks will ZOOM past after all we’re already in April! Financially I think I’m going to be OK with a bit of savings and my works pension. Together they should tide me over until my State pension kicks in around 65-67 if I’m still around!

Birthday(s):

It’s my birthday this Sunday and my Mums birthday too on Saturday. My Mum is 83 this year are still going strong. As I believe I have quite a few of her genes (mostly noticeably in the defects to be honest!!) I imagine – all other things being equal I should at least get into my 70’s probably…… I have the advantage of never smoking unlike my Mother and I’ve been regularly taking vitamins for the last 30 years. I guess we’ll see.

April:

As April is my Birth Month the theme here @ SaLT is Books. So you’ll see even more book posts than usual. It also means that, as usual, all restraints are off purchase wise for the next 4 weeks. Luckily I don’t feel the burning need for very much though I’ll probably be treating myself to a graphics card upgrade for the PC along with some extra RAM to play a new game just out and to future proof things a little bit.

The Mueller Report:

Well the long awaited Mueller Report has finally been produced and should hit the public by, I guess, the end of the month. I’m planning on buying it as long as the predicted redactions are kept to a minimum. I’d accept around 5% but no more than that really. If it starts approaching 10% it’d really put me off spending good money on it. I mean, the redacted bits are going to come out at some point down the line – so either un-redact now or I’ll wait until the Director’s Cut comes out later in the year. I already have a few names on a distribution list @ work so it’ll be well thumbed by the time it gets back to me. Maybe I should buy two copies….. [grin]

Brexit:

Yes, it’s still absolute chaos here. Parliament are voting again tonight to see if they can agree on anything – if the sky is (occasionally) blue, if water is wet and so on. The latest votes happen later tonight at around 10:30. What those votes will say is anyone’s guess. It’ll probably mean asking for a further extension from the EU which they may, or may not, grant. But it won’t be for long. If we get anywhere near the end of May a whole HOST of problems arise because of the European Elections on the 23rd. What a MESS!

Congratulations on your comming retirement.

As much as I am interested in the subject. I am thinking that the Mueller report will be difficult to read. I do hear that a lot of people plan to purchase a printed copy.

Happy birthday to you and your mum! I hope you make it into your 80s, aim high and all that! Retirement! *so jealous.” Will you be doing more of what you love, reading, gaming, etc. or do you have other plans travel, volunteerism, etc.? I want to travel, and spend every spare moment writing. Book two of my trilogy is taking a long time to get past page 35 because of the move and work. I thought things might slow down for me when I move to MD because we’ll be renting and I won’t have any home remodeling projects to do, but alas, I have a new job lined up teaching pre-law classes that I’ll have to spend the summer building and prepping for, and another university has expressed interest in me working in their pre-law program as well. I’ll also be teaching on-line history classes for the two universities I’ve been teaching for. So that’s not slowing down. πŸ™. So at the moment I can only fantasize about retirement and look with envy at friends who have already achieved that.

Happy Birthday this Sunday! Retirement is great. I have never been so busy. Mueller report: I heard there was going to be an audio book with different voices dramatizing the thing. I can't imagine.

@ Mudpuddle: I wonder who'll play Mueller? Redford?

@ Brian: I'm hoping the Report will be griping.... Maybe it will. I'll see once its released.

@ V V: Thanks. I hope I live long & prosper too! I'll definitely be doing a LOT more reading. I'm aiming @ 100 per year. LOL - I don't think you know how to slow down do you? I'm sure that you'd be pretty bored...

@ Judy: Audio book? That'd be interesting... [grin]
