I am a fan of Discovery. I have watched every episode. My take: the first season was worthy science fiction but was too dark and it tried to be too edgy for Star Trek. They also ignored previous series too much. I asked myself, is this Star Trek? They turned it around in the second season. It was back to optimistic science fiction with great stories an characters. Lots of really well thought out surprises too. Captain Pike, Number One and Spock return as well as the old uniforms! I loved season two. If you give it a try, and have doubts during season one, I urge you to hang in there.
@ Brian: So far I've only seen clips on YouTube and was frankly appalled at what they did to the franchise in Season 1. Some of my friends really liked it but I just couldn't bring myself to watch it. Then I saw the introduction of Captain Pike. WOW - he's GOOD! Exactly what Star Trek should be like. If they don't give him his own series then CBS or whoever need shooting. He has exactly the gravitas that a show like this needs. Honestly - when the Discovery first meets the Enterprise I nearly cried......
@ Stephen: It's from Discovery Series 2 (I think). If you notice the graphic just above the central characters head (that's Captain Christopher Pike BTW!) you'll see it looks familiar. It's NCC 1701 - the ENTERPRISE! The woman on the right is Number One. On the left is Spock..... SO MUCH potential. Again I've only seen clips by Pike is SUPERB.

Not seen a whole episode of Discovery (yet) but have been SO impressed by Anson Mount as Pike on the bits I've seen him do on YouTube. Where has he been hiding all these years? If they don't give him his own ST show it'll be a travesty.
Season 2 of ST Discovery was amazing. Anson Mount did an incredible job bringing Captain Pike to life, a character that I think deserved a lot more development.
Right from his entry into the series, I was going "I like him. He's awesome." and he played the character with remarkable poise and charisma. The latest Spock was really good too. Better with the beard though.

Are these actors from another show? I haven't watched much of STD...the first two episodes were garbage. Sounds like it turns around later on, though.

Anson Mount has been sooo good as Christopher Pike! We enjoyed season 1 but season 2 has been just terrific!
