@ Stephen: Whiskey was never my thing. I tried it as a teenager but I was probably drinking the rubbish rather than the good stuff. Vodka has always been my 'go to' spirit of choice.
@ Mudpuddle: Indeed. Many problems have started @ Christmas parties because of the demon drink. This year at ours I had a double vodka (and bitter lemon) whilst waiting for the rest of my team at a nearby pub, 2 complimentary glasses of Prosecco and a glass of white wine with the meal, 3 apple vodka shots at the venue and then 2 more vodka's in a nearby bar before leaving early and leaving the young one's to their evening. No trouble caused... as far as I remember!
I'm more of a brandy and gin fellow, but I'll never say no to a Jack and (Diet) Coke. A Jack and Diet Pepsi tastes about the same but doesn't roll off the tongue as easy.
@ Mudpuddle: Oh, it wasn't that much really... It was spread over about 6 hours and there was a 3 course meal in there.. I don't usually drink much as a rule (even when I'm drinking). I'm certainly no longer young enough to get drunk for the sake of it. I always hated hangovers and as I past through my 30's they became a BIG turn off to drinking to excess.

Whiskey turns me into a balladeer, less a ranter, interestingly..
the road to disaster
