Tennyson had a way with words! I was introduced to him through Star Trek, oddly enough -- "The Charge of the Light Brigade" was recited during a Dominion War episode.

O'Brien: Cannon to the left of them, cannon to the right of them, cannon in front of them volleyed and thundered
Bashir: Stormed at with shot and shell, boldly they rode and well, into the jaws of Death, into the mouth of Hell, rode the six hundred.
Nog: Whatever it is you two are reciting, I WISH YOU'D STOP.

@ Stephen: I was reminded of this today by a James Bond clip spoken by Judy Dench - what a voice!!

Star Trek got a bit heavy on literary references especially when Picard was on screen but it introduced me to a few things too. [grin] Then again, there's probably at least one Shakespeare quote available for *any* occasion!

BTW - None of my recent comments on your Blog have shown up. Is there an issue? I think I'm missing at least 4-5 now....

I wondered why you weren't dropping by! I'll check the comment queue-- there's never been a problem before, but maybe wordpress changed the algorithms or whatever. Thanks for letting me know!

There were a proper PILE of them -- for some reason WP flagged them as spam. I'll have to start checking that.

(Oh, and one of the reasons I LOVE 90s-era Trek was how cultured it was. It introduced me to opera, folk music, swing music, Tennyson, who knows what else.)

Spam, eh? Well, I've been called worse things... [grin]

ST has always been great for introducing droplets of culture that the viewers can run with.
