The sign above the stores is both surprising & unexpected (as in illogical). As alcohol won't be available post-Prohibition you're not exactly saving money on future purchases - unless they mean they're having a 'fire sale' prior to not being allowed to legally sell it. It was a VERY stupid law though. How they ever thought it was a good idea is beyond me, human nature being what it is!

I'm guessing in regards to the prices bootleggers charged, people would save money. Very stupid law indeed, it lead to more crime and violence. No idea how they thought it would be enforceable.

I can see black market booze being cheaper OR more expensive -- cheaper, possibly, because it's illegal and therefore no longer passes on a tax burden the consumer. More expensive is probably more likely, though, given that bribes, risks, and security would have to be factored in.

@Sarah The same illogic is in effect today for drugs. Ban MJ and ectasy and a new synthetic will be made to skirt them. Take down the Sil Road, and a hundred more will appear. Put up a wall, they'll tunnel under or hop over or circumvent it. Humans are fluid, laws are rigid. I'll bet on the humans. ;)
