100% there is no sense of common purpose anymore. It's terrifying.

About 100 pages in. It's a very good book.

I think there was, at one point. Espeially during WWI and WWII. The whole country came together for the good of the war effort and people were not solely focused on themselves.

Now though? It's not even that some people just love trump, they are also actively voting for him in order to make life worse for certain groups of people they don't like.
