Exactly. It does not need to exist. Absolutely no good comes from it.

I'm stunned every time I hear the horror stories. I've never used our Health Service all that much, but it seems to be a million times better than what you lot have to deal with. To date all of my dealings with the NHS have been between easy & brilliant... and hardly a cost worth talking about.

With all of Eleanor's early medical expenses (bowel obstrution at birth, so ambulance ride to Childrens Hospital 15 hours after she was born, plus two kidney surgeries before the age of three), without insurance we were looking at over $100,000 in bills. After insurance it was around $6000. For hospitals to keep non-profit status, they have to write off so much of a bill, so I applied for assistance (and have done so every time something big happens - like when Eleanor broke her arm a few years ago, or right now when she is having some kind of neurological issue with how her brain is sending messages to her legs and the nerves are saying no thanks, it hurts to walk; I'm so excited to see how much all of the MRIs and X-rays, OT/PT, walker/wheelchair, and hospital stay are going to cost!), and they forgive either 25%, 50%, 75%, or 100% of the bill. That only happens though after getting denied by Medicaid (which of course I get denied every year, because teachers make SO MUCH money!), but it helps to keep costs down at least. That could, of course be helped a lot more if we didn't have this billshit private insurance scam whose only goal is to make money.

[shakes head in disbelief] It's just SO inexplicable that people get so angry..... [lol]

Right? I also have med bills of my own, including those from my gallbladder surgery in February. The hosptal forgave a portion, but not much. I can't afford the payments for their payment plan, so they offer information about a high-interest bank loan to pay the med bill, and then I would pay off the bank. Sounds perfect, right? I said no thanks, I will pay you what I can per month until I am in range for a payment plan. By then I am sure it will be sent to collections though, so that will ALSO be fun.

I'm astounded that the anger took THIS long to boil over to be honest... [shakes head] I am 'impressed' though that the CEO killing is *still* news. Its obviously hit a very raw nerve with a LOT of people!
