I've had some great women bosses. In fact I preferred them to the male bosses I've had (by and large) over the years. There are plenty of role models 'out there' both IRL today, throughout history and in fiction too. Sometimes you just need a bit more effort to find/recognise them.
There weren't many around when I was young. Yes, there were historical ones but I didn't know much about them. I would have needed an aunt or someone to fight for my right to education.
Widespread knowledge of female role models - of all types - is, I think, a fairly recent phenomena. Part of that is the fact that there are a lot more women historians these days - as well as fiction authors - who can bring the largely forgotten women back out of the shadows.

My first boss was a great role model for me. It's been years but I still miss having her in my life. I should reach out but I get nervous-like...

So true. At my time, most girls didn't get a higher education, "they would marry anyway". I hated that.
