That was the BIG Red Flag that warned me off the 'new' Star Trek movies - the fact that they were building Enterprise on the GROUND rather than in orbit - just for the shot.... I should've known from that moment that I'd hate the movie - and I did.
It made for a nice visual shot, but yes...it was absurd. I've rewatched the first movie just because the casting is SO damn good, but despite someone giving me the trilogy on DVD, I've never bothered re-watching the others.

Going in, just from the trailers, I was unimpressed but was willing to be proven wrong.... I thought it was terrible.
The *only* thing I liked about it was the guy who played Captain Christopher Pike - Bruce Greenwood.
He had excellent gravitas. You didn't like Quinto and Urban's take on their respective characters?
Quinto wasn't terrible.... Urban certainly was and don't get me STARTED on Pegg's Scotty.... [shudder]
